What are the risks?
- Regular use of Cannabis increases the risk of developing a psychotic illness, including Schizophrenia.
- Smokers can become anxious, suspicious, paranoid and panicky.
- The drug affects cognitive ability including your co-ordination which is why it is as bad to drive whilst under the influence of Cannabis as it is to drink-drive
- Cannabis is NOT harmless. It can lead to lung disease and cancer. It can also worsen asthma and cause wheezing in non-asthmatics.
- Use increases the heart rate and blood pressure
- Regular use can lead to fertility problems, in men the sperm count and mobility of sperm is decreased and in women ovulation is suppressed.
- Smokers may also have increasing difficulties with concentration and self-motivation.
